History Timeline

World History Timeline puts five thousand years on one line your child can zoom like a map: from the first writing in Sumer, through the pyramids, Rome, the printing press and the steam engine, to people walking on the Moon. Every event has a short story Owlie reads aloud and a pin on the globe, so when and where come together.

What your child learns

  • How long ago things happened, and what came first
  • What happened at the same time in different parts of the world
  • Where events took place, on the globe
  • Reading years before and after the year zero

How to play

Scroll or pinch to zoom in and drag to move along the line; a bubble with a number zooms into a crowded stretch. Tap a picture for its card: Owlie reads it and the globe shows where it happened. Read more opens the full knowledge card.

Levels

  1. Level 1Explore the line and open six events.
  2. Level 2Four events: tap the oldest first, then the next.
  3. Level 3Which of three happened at about the same time?

A tip for parents

Pick an event and ask what else was happening then: the timeline shows that the Maya, Bulgaria and Hagia Sophia all belong to the same few centuries.
